Collector’s Note
Sourced directly from the vibrant Baan Sillapin Artist Village in Hua Hin, this panoramic seascape is a stunning study of coastal light and motion. Painted in 2018, the artwork features an intense, multi-layered impasto technique where the artist used a heavy palette knife to sculpt the waves.
The fiery orange and deep crimson sky beautifully mirror the late afternoon sun bouncing off the Gulf of Thailand, catching local fishing trawlers at their most peaceful hour. It serves as a brilliant, tactile window into the soulful coastal atmosphere of regional Thailand, making it a dramatic, light-catching focal point for a contemporary space.
Meet the Artist
Founded in 2000 by master watercolorist Tawee Kesa-ngam and a collective of visionary Thai painters, the Baan Sillapin Artist Village has long been the creative epicenter for regional fine art in Thailand. The village serves as a permanent sanctuary for resident artists who specialize in translating the landscapes, traditional maritime life, and spiritual essence of the region onto canvas. Works emerging from this collective are defined by a distinct celebration of raw material, moving away from flat compositions into heavily textured, expressive applications of oil that physicalize the intense heat, light, and movement of the Thai coast.
